Burgos


Burgos is a city on the Camino Santiago richer by the artistic point of view, dominated by the famous Gothic Cathedral: one of the most precious jewels of religious architecture in Spain.

The Cathedral of Burgos


The cathedral of Burgos was begun in 1221 and its construction was almost completely done in about 40 years. The only exceptions are the twin spiers, a triumph of lavish ornamentation and elaborate details, 84 meters high and surrounded by a myriad of pinnacles were added in the fifteenth century.

The Puerta del Sarmental, on the southern facade, is without doubt the most beautiful of the portals along the Puerta de la crown, on the north side, where it appears the figure of Christ surrounded by evangelists.

Inside the cathedral of Burgos, have many things to admire: the magnificent high altar, a masterpiece overflowing with golden ornaments and decorations, the Chapel of the Blessed Christ, which keeps a venerated crucifix of the thirteenth century, the medieval cloister with tombs carved in stone.

At the Cathedral of Burgos is related the story of the hero of one of the most famous legends of Spanish history: under the building, in fact, is buried the legendary El Cid, hero of the Christian reconquest of Spain.

The city and the Castle of Burgos


Burgos is a city compact, elegant, with lovely walks, streets closed to traffic, great food and friendly atmosphere.

Going up to the Parque del Castello, await the fortifications of the castle of Burgos, dating from the ninth century, but now rebuilt, was the star of that turbulent historical events.
